When a student needs practice on a skill, there are websites that can be vital resources. I have also used some of these websites to find material to help prepare students for assessments or when a standard needs specific targeting. What interests me the most, however, are websites that can help assessment be fun and meaningful.

Tech Formative Data Kahoot.png — Kahoot!

It is amazing how students who dread multiple choice quizzes come to life when the same quiz is delivered as a Kahoot. Also, Kahoot makes grading easy by saving all results as a spreadsheet, which is an easy way to get exact data about how each student is performing on a given standard.

ReadWorks

On occasion, I have used assessments from ReadWorks, and I was impressed that the reading sections were standards specific for teachers and genuinely interesting for teachers. I have never been fully in this ecosphere, but it seems like when I check in every few months, there is some major feature added. I would love to explore this more fully.

Tech Assessment Supplement ReadTheory.png — ReadTheory

I know that this is a popular site with many educators. I have never been able to get fully into it, but there are many quality passages, and from my experience, students do find it worthwhile. It is amazing to me that there are so many effective options available for educators to use. I think that this could be a great tool for proactively monitoring students who need extra support.

Tech Assessment Supplemnt BookRags.png — BookRags

This has been a go-to resource for me when I am trying to find some solid discussion questions or basic comprehension questions about a book. The quality can vary greatly between different books based on who is creating the material, but it has been an incredible timesaver for me when I am trying to get a baseline of resources for a book club when students are reading several different titles at the same time.

Tech Assesment Supplement ProblemAttic.png — Problem-Attic

What I love about Problem-Attic is that the website synthesises many external exams into one place, so you can get a sense of what will be expected of students. It also has a focus on formative activities and data analysis that other sites assessment don’t, so it feels more applicable to the classroom.

Tech BookWidgets Assessment.png — BookWidget

This websites is an ecosystem for teachers to create assignments and have them graded. There are some creative widgets in this ecosystem, including a slick way of designing interactive timelines for assessment. I have not had a chance to learn much about BookWidget, but the program seems to have some great features.

Tech Assessment Supplement USATestPrep.png — USATestPrep

While this website is pretty dry, I could see specific gains when my students used it to practice for standarized end-of-the-year testing. The questions have depth and are strategically tied to the assessed standards. I definitely think it was an overall win for students who needed exposure to the testing formats that they would experience.

Technology NWEA MAP.png — NWEA MAP

This was the first assessment that I felt like the test was fulfilling all the best intentions of current pedagogy. I saw the questions adjust in real-time to find the student’s performance, and I received a collection of data that was intensely detailed and useful for informing my teaching decisions. It is so relieving to see a test focus on where students are and how they can achieve long-term growth and progress.
