Student Learning Experiences

Sample Lesson Plan

As teachers, we are only as impactful as our planning is thoughtful. Are we focusing on skills that are relevant to students? Do we empower students to follow their inquiry? Do we convey meaningful information efficiently? Whether we are selecting resources, structuring our classroom management, or trying to strike the delicate balance between direct instruction, student-centered practice, and reflection, we know that the decisions we make before a class determines its succcess. Below is one video walkthrough of a less, as well as the lesson plan behind the learning experience. Here are other sample lesson plans for reading a whole class novel and using the structure of International baccalaureate Program while researching a modern conflict.

Common Planning

In 2018, a co-teacher helped new strategies for norming grades and using breakout sessions are essential elements of common planning.

  1. Norming was particularly important as we were doing a multi-disciplinary project that required teachers from different departments (Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Design Tech) to approach a rubric in similar ways. To help facilitate, I created this spreadsheet for norming grades during a multidisciplinary project.

  2.  Using breakout sessions to split students between classrooms for targeted instruction is a great way to collaborate efficiently between teachers. It also is a chance for students to enjoy new routines and have different learning experiences. To help visualize how students would be assigned to these breakout sessions, I created this spreadsheet for assigning breakout sessions.
